Capturing the Colours of July: My Photo Challenge
July has been a mad month for me, busy capturing numerous events over the weekends, which has kept me occupied editing photos during the week however, no amount of work keeps me away from my daily dog walks, where I found time to take part in my July photo challenge. Armed with my Google Pixel phone, I ventured out with my dogs to explore the local parks and countryside.
For this month’s challenge, I focused on the flowers and colour of summer. Nature has been bursting with life this month, providing perfect subjects for me and one of my first finds was the delicate Enchanter’s Nightshade, although its tiny white flowers are lovely, I know too well that they will soon produce small, green, sticky buds. These buds are the bane of my life for the next two months, as my scruffy dogs, who love to wander through the undergrowth, always come back covered in them. Another highlight was photographing the Epilobium plants. While in full bloom, these plants are full of colour and a magnet to the local bee population, but as they die off, they produce seed pods reminiscent of oversized dandelion clocks and these fluffy seed heads float on the breeze and can leave a carpet of white “snow” in July.
The horse chestnut trees are also starting to produce conkers, hinting that autumn is on its way. I also photographed the beautiful fluffy blossoms of Spiraea Salicifolia and the towering foxglove. Field roses always added a touch of the wild to the landscape, while the uniquely named Nipplewort flowers provided a splash of yellow amidst the greenery. And let’s not forget the succulent wild raspberries, which offered a tasty treat as well as a stunning subject to photograph.
July has truly been a month of discovery. Each day brought a new splash of colour or an unexpected find, and I relished the opportunity to capture these moments with my phone. It has been a lovely month of searching for the colours of summer, and I’m already looking forward to seeing what August has in store.
