Returning to Gran Canaria:
Updating Sian Faire’s Branding Images
Returning to Gran Canaria was a highlight of my recent schedule, specifically to work on updating Sian Faire’s branding images. I first photographed Sian in this beautiful location last year, but after five years of collaboration, we both recognise how a business naturally evolves.
Returning to Gran Canaria this time was not about starting from scratch; it was about ensuring her visual identity accurately reflects where she is today. This trip allowed us to review her current library, spot the gaps, and create authentic new imagery that truly represents her brand in its current form.
Reviewing the Existing Library
Before I even picked up the camera, Sian and I went through her current image library. Some of the images still worked beautifully, capturing moments and moods that had stood the test of time. Others, however, no longer reflected how she works or the life she’s built in Gran Canaria. Five years might not feel long, but in business terms it’s plenty of time for priorities, confidence, and style to shift.
Identifying the Gaps
What we found was less about quantity and more about context. Sian liked the style of some stock images she’d admired, but she wanted originals, images that were addressed to her, her surroundings, and the way she works. The goal wasn’t to replace everything she had, but to create images in a similar style that were uniquely hers. We focused on showing her in her natural environment, doing her work in a way that felt current and authentic.
Updating Without Starting From Scratch
Branding photography doesn’t need to be a complete reinvention each time. Updating is about keeping pace with the changes in a business and its owner. Some images can stay; some need refreshing. The key is knowing what truly needs attention and what already works. This approach keeps the process manageable and ensures every image serves its purpose.
Why Original, Up-to-Date Images Matter
Using fresh, original images has benefits beyond looking good. They show consistency and activity to both your audience and search engines. Stock images can fill a gap, but they rarely tell the story of your business in the way that personalised images do. By updating her library, Sian now has visuals that work across her website, social media, and any other platforms where she presents her business.
This trip reminded me that strong branding photography is about paying attention, noticing what’s changed, and ensuring your images reflect who you are now, not just who you were when your first images were taken. For anyone thinking about their branding visuals, a regular review and update is a simple step that makes a big difference.
