From the Army to the Arts (and Everything in Between)
My Journey Back to Photography
Photography has always been a passion of mine. But like many people, I didn’t get to follow that path straight away. Life took me in different directions. Responsibilities came first. Careers shifted. Opportunities didn’t always line up with the right timing.
For years, photography had to be put on the back burner. Yet, no matter how far life pulled me away, the desire to create images never left me. Looking back, I realise everything I experienced along the way helped shape the photographer and business owner I am today.
How Serving in the Army Reserves Shaped My Approach
My time in the Army Reserves with the Royal Engineers was a defining chapter. It taught me discipline, adaptability, and teamwork, qualities that still underpin everything I do. I learned to think clearly under pressure, deliver on time, and respect the value of people’s time and trust. These lessons flow through my business philosophy and how I work with clients.
A Non-Traditional Path Into Photography
My route into photography wasn’t conventional. Before stepping fully into the world of cameras and creativity, I spent years working across different industries, solving problems, building relationships, and understanding how businesses operate from the inside out. When the opportunity came to embrace photography professionally, I brought all of this experience with me.
That means I don’t just take photos. I create images that tell stories, solve problems, and help businesses grow.
Adapting and Growing During Challenging Times
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I adapted quickly by focusing on connection. I attended online networking sessions and offered my photography services to help small businesses stay visible. This period laid the foundation for the reliable, creative business I have today.
Who I Work With and What I Offer
Today, I work with a diverse range of clients, from local councils and corporate organisations to charities and creative entrepreneurs, across South Wales, the South West, and beyond. I specialise in commercial photography including events, headshots, branding, property, and product photography, all tailored for real-world business needs.
Using Technology to Deliver Quality and Value
Behind the scenes, I use technology and AI tools to speed up delivery without compromising quality. This helps me keep costs sensible and makes professional photography accessible to businesses of all sizes, not just those with big budgets.
Sharing More Than Just Photographs
This blog is my way of sharing the journey, insights, and stories that shape my work. I hope each post offers something useful, inspiring, or simply real.
