Photography in Cwmbran with Accessible Travel Focus

I’m a Cwmbran photographer who focuses on telling real stories through commercial and branding photography. One project that stands out was a collaboration with Carys Mair for Active Travel Wales. We worked on a case study for their brochure, featuring Amanda Say, a wheelchair user and campaigner for accessible travel across South Wales.

The photoshoot took place near Amanda’s home in Cwmbran. We photographed her on and around a zebra crossing, showing the dropped kerb and tactile paving. Tactile paving, also called blister paving, helps visually impaired pedestrians. Its raised, flat-topped domes can be felt underfoot or with a cane. They mark the edge of the kerb and indicate a safe crossing. At controlled crossings, the paving is red to show priority. At uncontrolled crossings, it is usually buff or yellow to contrast with the surrounding pavement.

Photographing Amanda using these accessibility features highlights the everyday experiences of wheelchair users. The images also show the importance of inclusive infrastructure. They were used in the Active Travel Wales brochure to support campaigns for safer, more accessible streets across South Wales.

This project shows how photography can do more than create pretty images. Each photo tells a story, communicates a message, and reflects a brand’s values. Capturing Amanda’s story helped Active Travel Wales connect visually with people while producing high-quality images for print and digital campaigns.
