November in the Woods: Almost There
November is here, and with it, a big milestone in my year-long nature project. There’s only one month left! It’s amazing to look back and see how far the journey has come—from January’s icy mornings to November’s quiet shift into winter. The woods feel so different now: calmer, quieter, and ready for what comes next.
As always, I’ve been capturing these moments on my Google Pixel phone, which never fails to amaze me with its ability to bring out the richness of colours and details. These photos are such a joy to take—they make me feel even more connected to the woods and the changing seasons.
The First Snow
We had our first snow of the season this month, and it was magical. Just a light dusting, but enough to transform the woods into something otherworldly. The last golden leaves, dusted with snow, looked like tiny treasures sparkling in the cold. I could feel the shift—autumn saying goodbye, and winter knocking gently at the door.
The Wind Did Its Work
Before the snow, though, the winds really made their mark. Almost every tree has been stripped bare, leaving only a few stubborn, crinkled leaves clinging on for dear life. The forest looks so different now—no more canopy, just the stark outlines of branches reaching up to the sky. It’s beautiful in its own way, though. Everything feels exposed and raw, but also peaceful.
Rain, Rain, and More Rain
November didn’t hold back with the rain this year. Some of the heaviest downpours I’ve seen left the paths muddy and the puddles overflowing. At first, it felt a little gloomy, but the more I walked, the more I noticed the subtle beauty of it all.
A Pop of Colour: Holly
Even with the muted tones of November, the holly bushes are out here doing their thing. The glossy green leaves and bright red berries are a welcome burst of colour against the browns and greys of the forest. They’re such a cheerful sight—a little hint of December’s festive energy waiting just around the corner.
November has brought the woods to a quiet, reflective place, and I feel the same way. This project has been such a rewarding experience, and there’s still one more month to go. December is just ahead, and I can’t wait to see what surprises it brings—frosty mornings, deeper snow, or maybe even a glimpse of winter sunshine. Here’s to soaking in every last moment.
